History of King's Highway 7B (Carleton Place):

Carleton Place's Hwy 7B Business Route was originally known as Hwy 15B. In 1961, Hwy 15 was rerouted between Smiths Falls and Carleton Place. The old route of Hwy 15 between Perth and Carleton Place became Hwy 7, which resulted in the renumbering of the Business Route through Carleton Place as well. During the 1970s, the routing of Hwy 7B was shortened. Rather than return to Hwy 7 via Franktown Road, the highway was truncated at Hwy 29 (later renumbered as Hwy 15). This took place sometime between 1970 and 1977, but the exact year is not known. In 1994, an eastern bypass was opened along the eastern edge of Carleton Place. This new route bypassed downtown, and Hwy 15 was rerouted along this new road. When this occurred, Hwy 7B was extended another 1.1 Km east along Townline Road, to meet up with the realigned Hwy 15 at McNeeley Avenue. On January 1, 1998, Hwy 7B was formally decommissioned. The highway is now known as Lanark County Road 7B. Click here to see a route map Hwy 7B (Carleton Place), showing historical re-routings and realignments.
