History of Tertiary Highway 807 (#2):

The second Hwy 807 was a temporary designation applied to the new highway that was under construction between Atikokan and Ignace in the 1980s. Construction began on the new highway in 1982 at the Atikokan end of the proposed route. In 1986, construction began on the northern section of Hwy 807, immediately south of Hwy 17. In 1988, the north and south portions of Hwy 807 were connected, and the new highway was officially opened to traffic in September, 1989. The highway was renumbered from Hwy 807 to Hwy 622 at that time. The opening of Hwy 807/Hwy 622 in 1989 marks the completion of the last major highway link in Northern Ontario. Another, unrelated Hwy 807 existed between Smooth Rock Falls and Fraserdale in the 1960s and 1970s. Click here to see a route map of Hwy 807 (#2), showing historical re-routings and realignments.
