History of King's Highway 17B (Shuniah):

The Shuniah Township Highway 17B Business Route was established in 1970, following the completion of the Lakehead Expressway east of Thunder Bay to Silver Harbour. The old highway through Shuniah Township was renumbered as Highway 17B. The route was 18.2 km in length and it ran concurrently with Highway 11B for its entire route. The route of Highway 11B & Highway 17B was transferred from the province to the Township of Shuniah, effective April 1, 1972.
