History of King's Highway 12B (Coldwater):

This Highway 12 Business Loop was created when the Coldwater Bypass opened to traffic in June 1960. The old alignment of Highway 12 through downtown Coldwater became Highway 12B. The highway was 2.6 km in length. The route survived until 1985, when it was formally decommissioned as a King's Highway. The route of Highway 12B was assigned a 7000-series highway number (Highway 7173) shortly before the route was decommissioned, although the business route is believed to have been signed as Highway 12B up until at least 1983. The highway was transferred from the province to the Township of Medonte, effective May 15, 1985. Four other Highway 12B Business Routes have existed over the years in Port McNicoll, Orillia, Gamebridge and Victoria Harbour.
