Above - Westbound junction sign assembly approaching Curzon Junction near Yahk. The Crowsnest Highway (Hwy 3) makes a right turn just ahead, while Hwy 95 continues straight ahead towards the Canada-United States Border at Kingsgate. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - Dual Hwy 3 & Hwy 95 route markers along the eastbound Crowsnest Highway at Curzon Junction. These two highways share a concurrent overlapped route for approximately 78 km between Curzon Junction and the Cranbrook area. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - Green guide signs on the westbound Crowsnest Highway approaching Curzon Junction. Here, Hwy 3 & Hwy 95 part ways, with the latter highway continuing straight ahead towards the Canada-United States Border. Traffic wishing to remain in Canada must turn right just ahead, as there are no other major roads connecting to Hwy 95 south of Curzon Junction. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Right - Overhead green guide sign marking the Hwy 3 West turn-off to Creston at Curzon Junction. After travelling on the same road all the way from the Alberta boundary, this sudden Hwy 3 turn-off onto a different roadway likely catches many westbound motorists by surprise. Accordingly, the Hwy 3 turn-off is very well signed. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - Green guide sign on westbound Hwy 3 & Hwy 95 approaching Curzon Junction directing traffic bound for Castlegar and Trail to turn right via Hwy 3. In fact, the only way for westbound traffic arriving at Curzon Junction to reach any population centre in British Columbia via an all-Canadian highway route requires motorists to turn right just ahead. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - Blue-and-white guide sign encouraging westbound traffic to use Hwy 3 to the Pacific Coast. While it is true that Hwy 3 offers the shortest route to the coast, the reality is that westbound motorists must use Hwy 3 West in order to reach the rest of British Columbia from Curzon Junction unless one wants to cross an international boundary to get there. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Right - An oversized Crowsnest Highway route marker was placed on the far side of the intersection at Curzon Junction to guide eastbound motorists arriving at the junction from Creston to turn left and continue east along Hwy 3 towards Cranbrook. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Right - Facing north along Hwy 95 towards the Hwy 3 Junction. Northbound traffic on Hwy 95 can join the Crowsnest Highway to Cranbrook by continuing straight through at Curzon Junction via Hwy 95 & Hwy 3 East, or turn left and follow Hwy 3 West to Creston. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Right - Green guide sign advising eastbound motorists of the Hwy 95 Junction approaching. It is interesting to note that the overlapped route of Hwy 3 & Hwy 95 is clearly distinguished from the single route of Hwy 95 approaching the junction. Presumably, this was done to reinforce the fact that Hwy 3 traffic must turn left in order to stay in Canada. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - Facing east across the Goat River Bridge towards Curzon Junction on Hwy 3. Interestingly, this bridge has a vertical clearance posted of 5.18 m (17 feet). Many of British Columbia's steel truss bridges were built with a vertical clearance of sufficient height that they do not require any warning signs. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Right - Arrow Mountain looms over the Crowsnest Highway (Hwy 3) about 10 km east of Creston. This mountain is part of the lengthy Purcell Mountain Range, which stretches from Golden, BC southerly into the State of Montana. Although Hwy 3 passes directly through the Purcell Mountains, many of the peaks are hidden from view from the highway itself. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Mount Thompson, with an elevation of approximately 2,170 metres (7,119 feet) above Sea Level, stands majestically over Creston. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - This pair of century-old grain elevators on Northwest Boulevard (Hwy 3) approaching Downtown Creston serves as a reminder of the importance of agriculture to the Creston area. The nearby Kootenay River gradually deposited soil across the valley floor around Creston over the millennia, which resulted in an area of productive and well-irrigated farmland. Right - Approaching the Hwy 3A Junction on Hwy 3, facing north. At the highway junction, Hwy 3 turns left and resumes its route west towards Castlegar, while Hwy 3A continues north towards Nelson via the Kootenay Lake Ferry. Right - Facing west along the Crowsnest Highway (Hwy 3) from the Hwy 3A Junction in Creston. Hwy 3 climbs over Kootenay Summit west of Creston before continuing west towards Salmo and Castlegar. Traces of snow still appear on the Kootenay Mountains in the distance. See an Enlarged Photo Here.
