Right - Beginning of the Crooked Lake Diversion on Hwy 69. The future four-lane highway will bypass a series of curves in the current highway, the first of which is visible in the background of this photo. The new four-lane highway will divert away from the current highway and follow the utility pole line.

Left - The current route of Hwy 69 lies to the east of the proposed new four-lane highway. This section of the current highway will be closed to through traffic once the new highway is finished in a few years.

Left - Future Crooked Lake Diversion on Hwy 69, facing south. During construction of the future four-lane highway, the section of Hwy 69 visible at left will be bypassed and ultimately abandoned.

Left - The completion of Hwy 69 between the French River and Burwash in 1955 cut the highway distance between Toronto and Sudbury by almost 50 km. The completion of Hwy 69 was one of the most eagerly anticipated highway construction projects in Northern Ontario's history. See an Enlarged Photo here.
