Page 8: Present Day King's Highway 69 Photographs (Britt to Hwy 64)
Left - Still River Bridge on Hwy 69 north of Britt. This attractive steel arch bridge was completed in 1954, and was one of the last structures of
this design constructed on Ontario's Highways. Surprisingly few steel arch bridges were built in Ontario by the Department of Highways. See an
Enlarged Photo here. (Photograph taken on July 3, 2005 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - From this elevated observation point beside the roadway, this interesting sag curve north of Still River gives the highway a roller-coaster appearance, which is compounded by a significant horizontal deflection. (Photograph taken on August 5, 2006 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - This interesting pair of concurrent (side-by-side) passing lanes on Hwy 69 north of Still River gives the highway the appearance of having a
continuous four-lane cross section for a considerable distance. (Photograph taken on August 5, 2006 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Facing south along Hwy 69 towards Parry Sound at the Key River Bridge. (Photograph taken on August 31, 2003 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Eastern side of the Key River Bridge on Hwy 69. This timber trestle structure was completed in 1951. (Photograph taken on August 31, 2003 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Western side of the Key River Bridge on Hwy 69 north of Britt. (Photograph taken on August 31, 2003 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - French River Bridge on Hwy 69 south of Sudbury. The beauty of this steel Pratt truss bridge is further accentuated by the stunning scenery
and rugged terrain that is typical of this region of Ontario. See an
Enlarged Photo here. (Photograph taken on August 5, 2006 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - The French River Bridge was completed in 1957, several years after Hwy 69 was opened through this area. A temporary Bailey Bridge was put in place in 1953 to carry traffic while this permanent bridge was being constructed. The rock fill approach to the former temporary bridge can still be seen beside the pier at the north end of the current steel truss span. (Photograph taken on August 5, 2006 - © Cameron Bevers)

Left - Green destination guide sign on Hwy 69 approaching the Hwy 64 Junction near Rutter. Hwy 64 provides an important cut-off route from Hwy 69 to
Hwy 17 at Sturgeon Falls, in addition to servicing the numerous communities to the west of Lake Nipissing. Considering that Hwy 64 is a relatively important highway junction along Hwy 69, it is rather surprising that it is only marked with regular-sized crown junction signs.
