Left - Looking north through the Cushman Road Underpass in St. Catharines. This structure was originally located on the QEW, but it was bypassed when the Garden City Skyway was completed in 1963. This former alignment of the QEW is now known as Dunkirk Road. See an Enlarged Photo here.

Right - Looking south through the Cushman Road Underpass on the former QEW alignment in St. Catharines. This structure was built in 1939, and was once surrounded by a partial cloverleaf interchange. The cloverleaf was removed in the 1960s following the completion of the Garden City Skyway. See an Enlarged Photo here.

Left - Facing west across the Cushman Road Underpass on the former QEW alignment (Dunkirk Road). This section of the QEW was bypassed in 1963 by the Garden City Skyway, which is visible off to the right. Note the raised grass berm at left, which used to carry the Niagara-bound QEW lanes. Left - Looking east across the Cushman Road Underpass. At the top of the hill, the QEW turned left and crossed the old Homer Lift Bridge over the Welland Canal. The Homer Lift Bridge also carried Hwy 8, which joins in from the right. See an Enlarged Photo here.

Right - A modest foundation for the new CN Rail Subway starts to take form beside the QEW in May 2005. The new railway structure was completed in late 2006, and the old 1937 subway in the background was subsequently demolished. The QEW was then widened to six lanes between Mountain Road and Hwy 405, which eased congestion on this important section of the highway. See an Enlarged Photo here.
