History of Secondary Highway 656:

Secondary Highway 656 is a local highway that serves as an access road from Highway 533 to the Otto Holden Hydro-Electric Generating Station near Mattawa. The highway was first assumed by the Department of Highways of Ontario (DHO) as a new provincial highway on April 8, 1965. The highway was paved in 1966. The route of Highway 656 has not changed substantially since that time. Unless posted otherwise, the speed limit on Highway 656 is 80 km/h. There are no services available on this highway.
