Above - Aerial view of Hwy 7 between the Hwy 50 Junction and Hwy 427 Interchange near Woodbridge in 1991. The Hwy 427 Interchange was still under
construction at the time this photo was taken. During the construction of the Hwy 427 Interchange, Hwy 7 was diverted to the north onto a temporary
alignment until the grade separation was completed. Although the new structure was finished by the time this photo was taken, traces of the temporary
Hwy 7 diversion are still visible in this photo. See an Enlarged Photo here. (Photo courtesy of Ontario Ministry of Transportation - © King's Printer for Ontario, 2009) ![]()
Above - Northern side of the new Hwy 7 Overpass across the future Hwy 427 in Woodbridge. In 1991, Hwy 427 was completed and opened to traffic from the
Claireville Dam near Finch Avenue northerly to Hwy 7. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken

Left - Facing east along Hwy 7 at the future Hwy 427 Interchange in 1990. Note the temporary concrete barrier at left, blocking the future on-ramp to Hwy 427
South from Westbound Hwy 7. The interchange ramps opened to traffic in 1991, along with the rest of the Hwy 427 Extension. Up until 1991, Hwy 427 ended near the
Claireville Dam north of Finch Avenue. At the freeway's termination, the road narrowed to two lanes and became Indian Line, which in turn terminated a short
distance to the north at Hwy 50 (Albion Road). Traffic then had to follow Hwy 50 north to reach Hwy 7. The completion of the Hwy 427 Extension to Hwy 7 provided
greatly improved highway access to Woodbridge. See an Enlarged Photo here.

This former access road leading from the northern terminus of Hwy 427 to Hwy 50 (Albion Road) was bypassed in 1991, when Hwy 427 was extended north from the Claireville Dam on a new alignment to Hwy 407 and Hwy 7. Left - Facing south across the Old Claireville CN Railway Overhead on Indian Line. Although this part of Indian Line was never officially part of Hwy 427, the
freeway began immediately to the south of this structure. During construction of the Finch Avenue Interchange in 1982-1983, Hwy 427 was extended north from Finch
Avenue to this point near the Claireville Dam. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken on
August 22, 1991. (Photo courtesy of Ontario Ministry of Transportation - © King's Printer for Ontario, 2014) Right - The Old Claireville CN Railway Overhead on Indian Line was a two-lane divided road with a raised concrete centre median. It was effectively a continuation of Hwy 427 from its 1983 terminus at Claireville Dam northerly to Hwy 50. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken on August 22, 1991. Left - The Old Claireville CN Railway Overhead was completed in 1963, and carried traffic on Indian Line up until 1991. As part of the construction of Hwy 407
in 1990-1991, Hwy 427 was extended north to Hwy 7 on a new alignment a short distance to the east of the old Claireville CN Railway Overhead. The bypassed Indian
Line Bridge still stands today, lying abandoned in an open field beside Hwy 427. See an

The completed Hwy 407 West to Hwy 427 South Flyover can be seen in the background. Noticeably absent is the opposing Hwy 427 North to Hwy 407 West Flyover, which had not yet been built at the time this photo was taken. The flyover from Hwy 427 North to Hwy 407 West wasn't built until 1994. The Hwy 407 & Hwy 427 Interchange sat completed but unopened for several years. The interchange was finally put into service when Hwy 407 ETR was opened to traffic in June, 1997. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken on August 27, 1991. Left - Completed northbound lanes of Hwy 427 at the Steeles Avenue Underpass in Toronto, shortly after being opened to traffic in 1991. Due to the
construction staging at the adjacent Hwy 427 and Hwy 407 Interchange, the northbound lanes of Hwy 427 opened to traffic before the southbound lanes were completed.

Apart from the occasional construction vehicle, the southbound lanes were not open to traffic. Top-course asphalt was still being laid on the southbound lanes between Hwy 7 and the new Hwy 407 Interchange at the time this photo was taken. Due to construction staging, the northbound lanes of Hwy 427 opened to traffic earlier than the southbound lanes. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken on August 27, 1991. This photo shows the recently completed flyover, which was only opened to traffic about two months earlier. Until 1992, traffic heading south on Hwy 427 had to turn left at an at-grade signalized intersection to access the ramp to Hwy 409 East. After the flyover was completed, the traffic signals at the Hwy 409 ramp were removed, thereby eliminating one of the most serious bottlenecks on Hwy 427. See an Enlarged Photo here. ongoing Hwy 427 widening project through the Hwy 409 Interchange. Up until 1997, Hwy 427 was only four lanes (two lanes per direction) through the Hwy 409
Interchange. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken on November 7, 1995. In 2000-2001, new ramps were built connecting Sherway Gardens Road and the Gardiner Expressway. As a result of the new Sherway Gardens Road ramp construction, the Gardiner Expressway ramp to Browns Line was relocated onto a new structure. The Browns Line ramp now crosses Hwy 427 at this point, immediately adjacent to The Queensway structure seen here. See an Enlarged Photo here. Photo taken on August 6, 1996.
