Left - Guide sign marking the Elliott Highway and Steese Highway Junction at Fox. From here, the Steese Highway (Hwy 6) continues northeast towards the Yukon River at Circle, while the Elliott Highway (Hwy 2) continues north to Livengood, where it joins the Dalton Highway (Hwy 11). Eventually, the Elliott Highway swings west, ending at Manley Hot Springs northwest of Fairbanks. And yes, that is a bullet hole through the middle of the sign. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - This sweeping reverse curve on the Elliott Highway (Hwy 2) near Dome Camp is one of many along the highway. Although the highway's speed limit is posted at 50 mph, it is hard to sustain this speed for any significant distance due to all of the curves. See an Enlarged Photo Here.

Left - The Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline comes into view beside the Elliott Highway (Hwy 2) as the highway crosses Wickersham Dome, about 35 miles north of Fairbanks. The Trans-Alaska Oil Pipeline transports crude oil from the Prudhoe Bay Oil Field on the Arctic Ocean south to the Port of Valdez. The pipeline itself is an engineering marvel. Parts of the pipeline were built above-grade while other sections were buried underground, as can be seen in this photo. The pipeline was first put into service in 1977. See an Enlarged Photo Here.
