Page 2: BC Highway 97C (Nicola Highway & Mamit Lake Road) Photographs: Merritt to Logan Lake
Left - Distance guide sign on westbound Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C near the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) Interchange in Merritt. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Sign on eastbound Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C departing Merritt advising motorists to check their fuel. Although this sign specifically refers to the lack of services on the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5), motorists should note that there are also no services along Hwy 5A between Merritt and Princeton or along Hwy 97C between Merritt and Peachland either. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Approaching Merritt on Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C, just west of the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) Interchange. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Electronic sign showing the closure status of major highway routes departing Merritt. Signs such as this are placed at strategic points along the British Columbia highway system, so that motorists can plan their journey through some of the high mountain passes located between Merritt, Kelowna and Vancouver. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Facing east along Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C approaching the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) Interchange in Merritt. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Green guide sign on Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C at the end of Coldwater Road in Merritt. This sign provides directions to the nearby junctions of Hwy 8 & Hwy 5. Curiously, there is no mention of Hwy 97C on this sign, and it is implied that Hwy 5A only travels south from Merritt. In fact, Hwy 5A also extends northerly from Merritt to Kamloops. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Distance guide sign on eastbound Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C departing from Merritt. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Facing west along Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C in Downtown Merritt. Note the Hwy 8 Junction sign at left. At the traffic signals, the overlapped route of Hwy 5A & Hwy 97C comes to an end, as Hwy 5A turns right and continues north from Merritt towards Kamloops. Hwy 97C continues straight ahead concurrently with Hwy 8, which begins at this intersection. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Overhead guide signs at the Hwy 5A, Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C Junction in Downtown Merritt. The city centre lies immediately south of this highway junction
via Voght Street. The route of Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C continue straight ahead as an overlapped route for about 5 km, where they part ways. Hwy 8 continues west to
Spences Bridge while Hwy 97C turns north towards Logan Lake and Cache Creek. Hwy 5A turns right onto Voght Street and heads north towards Kamloops. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - A full junction assembly stands on northbound Voght Street in Downtown Merritt. Voght Street continues straight ahead towards Kamloops as Hwy 5A North. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Nearly hidden by trees, another full junction assembly stands on southbound Voght Street (Hwy 5A) in Downtown Merritt. At the junction, Hwy 5A turns
left and heads southeast towards Princeton concurrently with Hwy 97C. At right, the route of Hwy 8 begins and heads west towards Spences Bridge concurrently with
Hwy 97C. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Approaching the eastern terminus of Hwy 8 at Voght Street (Hwy 5A North) in Downtown Merritt. Hwy 97C continues straight ahead towards Kelowna concurrently with Hwy 5A South. Ultimately, Hwy 5A turns off of Hwy 97C towards Princeton at a highway junction located about 27 km southeast of Merritt. At one time, the Okanagan Connector between Merritt and Peachland was envisioned to become an eastern extension of Hwy 8, but ultimately, the highway was designated as Hwy 97C. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)

Left - Junction sign assembly approaching the Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C Junction west of Merritt. The cardinal directions of Hwy 97C change at this highway junction.
From this junction easterly to Peachland, Hwy 97C is signed as an east-west highway. From this point northerly to Cache Creek, Hwy 97C is signed as a north-south
highway. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - An older angled guide sign for the upcoming Hwy 97C Junction on westbound Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C west of Merritt. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Facing west towards the Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C Junction west of Merritt. A second junction sign assembly was placed in advance of this highway junction.
After travelling on the same roadway for about 115 km from Peachland, the sudden departure of Hwy 97C onto a different roadway likely catches many westbound motorists
by surprise. It is little wonder that the highway junction is so well-signed heading westbound. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Junction sign assembly at the Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C Junction west of Merritt. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Facing east along Hwy 8 towards the Hwy 97C Junction near Merritt. Hwy 8 & Hwy 97C East begin their overlapped route here and continue straight
ahead towards Merritt, while the turn-off to Hwy 97C North to Ashcroft and Logan Lake lies to the left. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - An older angled guide sign for the upcoming Hwy 97C Junction on eastbound Hwy 8. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Facing west along Hwy 8 towards Spences Bridge from the Hwy 97C Junction. Hwy 8 ends 60 km ahead at the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) in Spences Bridge.

Left - Hwy 97C continues to climb into the foothills, about 6 km north of the Hwy 8 Junction. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Sagebrush lines both sides of Hwy 97C as the Nicola Valley appears. The small community of Lower Nicola can be seen at the bottom of the valley 7 km away. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Hwy 97C winds its way through sagebrush-covered hills on its route north towards Logan Lake. There is so much sagebrush in some of British Columbia's
inland valleys, that the hillsides actually appear silver-coloured at a distance. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Facing south along Hwy 97C towards Merritt, about 7 km north of the Hwy 8 Junction. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - This pretty ranch meadow appears along Hwy 97C, about 16 km north of the Hwy 8 Junction. The highway crosses some relatively high country between the
Hwy 8 Junction near Merritt and Logan Lake. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Hwy 97C descends this long steep grade towards Mamit Lake, about 18 km south of the Hwy 97D Junction near Logan Lake. With its winding hillside alignment, pleasant scenery, steep grades and surprising vistas such as one, Hwy 97C easily qualifies as one of Central BC's most interesting highways. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Approaching Mamit Lake on Hwy 97C, about 15 km south of the Hwy 97D Junction near Logan Lake. See an

Left - North of Mamit Lake, Hwy 97C passes through an area of grasslands. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Facing south along Hwy 97C towards Merritt, about 9 km south of the Hwy 97D Junction. Mamit Lake can be seen in the distance. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Distance guide sign on northbound Hwy 97C, about 10 km south of Logan Lake. Unlike Ashcroft, Logan Lake is actually not situated on Hwy 97C. Motorists
have to turn onto Hwy 97D and travel east for about 1 km to reach the Logan Lake Town Centre. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Hwy 97C winds north through this scenic grassland valley, about 8 km south of the Hwy 97D Junction. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Facing south along Hwy 97C towards Merritt, about 7 km south of the Hwy 97D Junction. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - A former alignment of Mamit Lake Road (Foley Road) can be seen at right, about 5 km south of the Hwy 97D Junction. This old road was likely bypassed and replaced by the current road long before Mamit Lake Road was designated as Hwy 97C during the 1990s. See an Enlarged Photo Here. Motorists wishing to continue north along Hwy 97C towards Ashcroft and Cache Creek must turn left at the crossroads. Hwy 97D begins at this highway junction at right, and heads east through Logan Lake. Ultimately, Hwy 97D connects to the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5) southwest of Kamloops. Although it is not a highway, Tunkwa Lake Road continues straight ahead and connects to the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1 & Hwy 97) just east of Savona. See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on June 4, 2015 - © Cameron Bevers)
Left - Green guide signs on westbound Hwy 97D approaching the Hwy 97C Junction. Hwy 97D comes to an end at the crossroads. Motorists wishing to continue north
along Hwy 97C towards Ashcroft and Cache Creek can continue straight through, but motorists wishing to head south on Hwy 97C towards Merritt must turn left. See an
Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on May 31, 2017 - © Cameron Bevers) Right - Facing east along Hwy 97D towards Logan Lake from the Hwy 97C Junction. The Logan Lake Town Centre lies about 1 km ahead. Hwy 97D is somewhat of an anomaly, as it does not connect to its parent route (Hwy 97) at all. It is one of five highway routes in British Columbia bearing the Hwy 97 route number (Hwy 97, Hwy 97A, Hwy 97B, Hwy 97C & Hwy 97D). See an Enlarged Photo Here. (Photograph taken on June 4, 2015 - © Cameron Bevers)
