Right - Flooded portion of Hwy 2 near Iroquois. This view of Hwy 2 was taken in approximately the same location as this Historic 1945 Postcard. Most of Iroquois was relocated above the flood line during the 1950s. However, this flooded section of Hwy 2 serves as a reminder of the original townsite that now lies below the waters of the bay in the background of this photo.

Left - Long Sault Parkway looking west towards Morrisburg on Philpotts Island. The portion of road in the foreground was actually built directly on top of the original Hwy 2 alignment, which can be seen behind the trees at left. The original alignment of Hwy 2 was closed off in 1958 when construction of the St. Lawrence Seaway resulted in the flooding of the original Hwy 2 alignment.

Left - The original Hwy 2 alignment slips below the waters of the St. Lawrence River on Philpotts Island. The old highway briefly re-emerges from the water off of Vankoughnet Island seen in the distance. A significant portion of the original Hwy 2 was flooded west of Cornwall in 1958, when a large hydro dam was constructed in conjunction with the St. Lawrence Seaway construction.

Right - A portion of the former Hwy 2 alignment across Macdonnell Island was flooded during the construction of the Seaway in 1958. A small diversion was built around the flooded area by the St. Lawrence Parks Commission to make this former portion of Hwy 2 a continuous park access road.

Above - The old alignment of Hwy 2 dips briefly below the water, only to emerge again on the other side of this cove. The presence of hills in this area resulted in many portions of Old Hwy 2 being spared during the inundation of the Long Sault Rapids and surrounding area in 1958.
